About Tiruvannamalai and Temple Annamalayar - Ancient pilgrimage temple famous for Girivalam, Karthikai deepam, Ashramam and more

Tiruvannamalai also named as Thiruvannamalai is the world renowned temple town located in west side of Tamil Nadu in southern India, which is synonym to deepam (fire). Here, the Lord Shiva (Arunachaleswar) is worshipped in the form of big fire.


The city is located around 180 Kilometers from Chennai (formerly called Madras)Which is the nearest airport (check the flight booking) and 80 kilometers from Vellore (Vellore Fort). The temple is strongly believed that foot hill of Lord Shiva when he came to be built around 750 A.D, The whole information furnished from the archeological sculptures. The temple is featured with 66 meters height of Gopuram which comprises of 33 storeys.

The Lord Shiva also called here as Annamalayar which is derived from the hills name Annamalai (It means an inaccessible Mountain). The temple is famous for many saints and poets who have sacred their life. Among others, Sri Ramana Maharishi who was spent his 50 years life here till death in 1950.

Tiruvannamalai is the apt place for all Siddha Medicine cured many ailments of sick people who seeking treatment. This place also been popular for research and meditation centers who really offering unremarkable services.

The temple hill also spokes about great walking path around 13 kilometers on round. Many devotees are going around the hill on every full moon of years and especially on the period of Karthikai deepam. This walking method is called as Girivalam or Giripradhakshana.

Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuaries
The Mudumalai National Park is around 36 Km via Kallaty Route, The other route is around  67 KM via gudalur.  The Mudumali Wildlife Sanctuary is reserve was the first sanctuary in south India. Mudumalai  is a tri-junction of the Three States, Mudumalai National Park (Tamil Nadu), Wynad Wildlife Sanctuary (Kerala) in the west and, Bandipur Tiger Reserve (Karnataka) in the north. Mudumali is around 62 sq Km area.  


 
Kotagiri
Kotagiri is around 23 km from ooty, 33Km from Coonoor, Peaceful and quiet hilly area of tamilnadu for tourist to visit.
